I saw these shots of Kate Spade’s house by Todd Selby a while ago, and am becoming increasingly obsessed with her headboard. When I was in my twenties I had bright yellow sheet, pillows and duvet that we nicknamed the “The Big Yellow”. This headboard feels like the grown up version… Love it.

Stumbled across Nicole Holofcener‘s film Please Give at the weekend, which follows two families that live next to each other in a particularly nice apartment in New York. Not action packed, but this melodic and charming film is all about the people, plus Kate (Catherine Keener) owns a vintage furniture store, so it’s worth a butchers for that alone. Perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon in dry January.

French designer Aurelie Bidermann creates some seriously covetable pieces. Her style is slightly edgy and witty but without all the obvious. Her dipped lace collection at Net-A-Porter.com is sooo cool, which includes these rings and an awesome lace cuff. The dipped feather collection is very elegant to. Lovely stuff.

I’ve seen quite a lot of lists recently detailing the best TV ads from 2010, and I’ve been really bored by how gimmicky they often are. Now THIS is what I call an ad. An awesome apartment, with Theron (inspired choice), confidently pacing towards you as she removes all her “stuff” and all with Marvin Gaye in the background. Strong, beautiful and superbly timed. Don’t pretend. Feel what’s real…

Skitsch is the home to a number of international designers who design functional and creative stuff for your home. Love the Midas Collection above from Front, where simple, elegant glass carafes and glasses are dipped in a gold bath. I’d use the carafe as a beautiful vase.
With workshops in Battersea and down the road in Brick Lane, I’m seeing more and more of Unto This Last with their imitable style of tables, storage and lighting. Local, unique and affordable. Good stuff.
I was reminded today of the work from Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. Probably most famous for his enormous rubber ducks on rivers around Europe, my favourite is definitely these amazing toys. Love the way he plays with scale and space and just what you need to warm your cockles on the first day back after ya jollies… I’d walk a few miles to throw myself into the arms of these lovely cuddlies!

Every year Pantone reveals a colour for the year. Last years colour was Turquoise and this years colour is Honeysuckle. We’ve seen a huge rise in merchandising from Pantone over the last year, from the mugs to even having a Pantone Wedding… but if anybody can “own” colour, then it’s Pantone.
Mini at Topshop is a small but perfectly formed range of childrens clothes for our winter babies. Love the tawny owl and reindeer prints with the dusty grey tutu. Something under the tree for Ella’s first Christmas. Gorgeous.
So not being able to stretch to 4 grand for a Damian Hirst butterfly print, inspired me to look for a more affordable version. These are just the job from Rocket St. George… the blue one is called “Papilio Ulysses Telegonus“. I know someone who might who might quite like that Mr. Ulysses.

I wouldn’t say I am a fan of Damian Hirst, but I am a fan of foil blocking and butterflies… so therefore his work The Souls is ticking lots of my boxes. Several different layers of printing and blocking to create 15 individual works of stunning colour and texture. Then add the title “The Souls” and the theory around beauty and death and you’re reminded way Damian Hirst can be so good.
Really like the simplicity of these necklaces at CONFESTTISYSTEM. I’m loving all the pastel colours around at the moment. More please…

Love the idea of bringing out the cheese this Christmas on these platters by HemDing Vintage. All handles are old garden forks/spades so no two plates are the same. Very cool.

I’ve been looking for a simple sideboard to go in our lounge for a while and finally had this delivered despite the snow. Found it at The Old Cinema in Chiswick, which is a bit of a haven for anyone that likes to fill their homes with vintage finds.
Refreshing approach to stationery and gifts at KnockKnock. Particular like the Personal Library Kit and the Breakup Recovery Kit. Can imagine many a teenage girl wearing the “heartbroken” bracelet with pride.

We’ve all heard the stories about how kids receive expensive presents for Christmas and they end up playing with the box it came in. Well, if you’re a child this must be the best cardboard box ever… really good for small flats and all folds up to store in small places. A brilliant idea. My Space is designed by product designer Liya Mairson.

Very nice photography from The Vintage Wedding Company. Makes such a difference when you don’t cut corners and is the perfect compliment to their beautiful and elegant dresses.
It’s not often I see a good bauble. These contemporary ceramic Spot the Dog ones from Reiko Kaneko however, are adorable… and they even do bespoke ones where you can have your own picture on them.

Areaware do a range of stuff by Harry Allen. I first came across him when I bought a pair of his Gran’s candlesticks, but he’s probably best known for his real pig piggy banks. I’ve got my eyes on this skate doorstop tho. He describes his style as “making life more thoughtful and beautiful”. How nice… shouldn’t we all.

New York Photographer Ted Sabarese has a really clean style, which is probably why brands like him. This latest project reminds me how you often see people that look like their dogs, but his message was to provoke our beliefs around evolution. Such a good character photograpaher, from just one photo you can easily imagine their entire lives.

I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Barbour. I used to ride horses and can remember getting a Barbour jacket for Christmas and being well chuffed. I used to bury my head in it and take in the smell of saddles. Thankfully they (and me I add) have moved on a bit since then and these jackets are perfect for a wintry stroll and pretty far removed from the standard brown cord collared types. One for the boys.
What a good idea to redesign the boring light bulb. Creating something you don’t need to hide away under a lampshade, it’s energy saving and lasts 8 times longer than a normal bulb. Thankfully they’re going to launch a bayonet version soon, as at the moment the Plumen is only available in screwcap.

I love a good shirt. I’m more likely to get excited about a beautiful shirt, than a frock at the moment. Most of my favourites are vintage finds, but this beauty from Chloe with the delicate bird print is ticking all sorts of boxes. This print would make a beautiful wallpaper for a bedroom, do Chloe do wallpaper?

Some what belatedly we watched I’m Still Here last night. As a “hoax” I think it’s a pretty creative concept, building a film around what’s real and what isn’t and what happens if you “play” with your role in the media. If it was real, then it would have made pretty sad watching…. not that this film is by any means a hoot. Anyway. Wicked film poster. I think this kind of typography is brave, bit like the film.

You’ve probably heard of Lee Broom as he’s been hitting the headlines recently having won two awards at The British Design Awards 2010. He’s mainly known for his interiors of bars and clubs, but getting noticed more for his furniture and lighting. The decanter lights above are genius. Seriously now.

I went on www.hm.com today to see what all the fuss was about with the new Lanvin collection and the site is looking good. Ditched the standard boxed style of shopping online, with the Lanvin collection all shown in individual rooms like a dolls house. All sold out tho of course…
Wow! Seen many a cupcake over the last few years, but Yummy Nice Baking are really pushing the boat out with these bad boys. Especially love the beautiful doily style cases with the white picket fence. Blimey, haven’t said the word “doily” for a while…

We were listening to a documentary on Radio 4 at the weekend on Calvin & Hobbes, which started me reminiscing about how much I used to love Snoopy and Peanuts. I actually completed the WHOLE Snoopy sticker album as a nipper, quite a level of commitment. I loved the general melodic pace of the shows and Snoopy was always my favourite, whether sitting on top of his dog house typing or as Joe Cool. Maybe this is why we’re beagle people…

I first came across Seletti in Selfridges when I bought the porcelain bucket. They’re probably best known for challenging conceptions with permanent versions of everyday stuff, like porcelain egg cartons or the glass water bottle. Much more to them tho, loving the ceiling hung coat rack.
My degree was in Graphic Information Design, so nice to stumble across this boarding pass project where designers have had a bash at re-thinking the standard old boarding pass. Pretty tidy stuff.

I was at Highroad House, Chiswick recently and it reminded me how much I love Ilse Crawford‘s stuff. She has been talking about the emotional response to design and brands for years and continually creates charming environments for us to eat, sleep and live in. It’s like wearing a new frock or getting your hair done, it all makes you feel good.
A big fan of British designers, but especially when they don’t come from the St. Martins route. Marcus Lupfer went to the same University as me and has made a really good name for himself, with signature knits and making sequins cool. I like fairly boyish clobber with a feminine twist, so he ticks lots of boxes for me. His website is a bit annoying tho, no categories and you can’t buy online…
I’m collecting pairs of vintage tea cups… I like hunting for them and collecting different types, rather than buying a full set. Most of them I have found in Vintage Heaven on Columbia Road. You have to go fairly regularly as the turn around on stock is really fast, but this also means there is new stuff all the time. This shop is definitely in my black book.
Amongst all the glamorous, shiny and “look at me” pieces at the Frieze, this really stood out to me, if only because its so silly… I think it’s brilliant. It’s by Tim Wendland a German artist currently living in Berlin and his work challenges our relationships with objects and surroundings. This is called Performance and its from 2001.

There’s quite a trend at the moment for animal or bird accessories for the home. Quite a few of my friends have the pigeon lamp and I noticed that Debenhams have bought out an affordable Ella lamp from Ben Di Lisi, inspired by his French Bulldog. However, leading the way must be Mooli with the rabbit lamp above or the pig table or if you have a few grand and a few inches to spare the horse lamp pretty much trumps them all!

I love finding new fonts, and just found this for a project I’m working on. It’s called Despeinada, liking the irregularity and flamboyant verticals. Nice.

I really enjoyed the Freize Art Fair this year and well worth the £25.
The I’M DEAD dog by David Shrigley is a fairly controversial choice as a favourite, but I think its making a strong point. I’ve been meat free since I was as teenager, so I’m strongly against animal cruelty, but I don’t see why this dog is any different than other taxidermy or wearing a fur? He’s pushing boundaries, especially with the increasing trend towards taxidermy these days, as I often walk into pubs at the moment and find a stuff stag or animals trophy head on the wall, that nobody bats an eye at. Good on you, Shrigley.
This is one of my favourite prints we have at home from illustrator Al Murphy. We’re all drawn to stuff with humour, rather than just the usable or beautiful and this made me laugh out loud when I first saw it!
Some fun stuff coming from YumYumLondon. Browsing their website is a good way to a bring a little colour to a rather grey and drizzly day in London.

Donna Wilson’s cushions are so lovely. Really homely, I still love my little faces ones on my sofa.
I saw Toy Story 3 a little a while ago and although I liked the film, this little short from Pixar called Day & Night showed before the film really left an impression on me. I struggled to find it online, but found it eventually.
Some elegant stuff coming from Kyle Poff, especially liking the FIVE brand and the wine packaging. Good work.
